Barre Phillips (born October 27, 1934 in San Francisco, California) is a jazz bassist. He moved to Europe in 1967 and has been based in southern France since 1972. He has performed and recorded extensively with virtually every figure in avant-garde jazz, and is especially known as a pioneer of solo bass music.
